Arsenal dropped another point this time against Wolves, but Paul Merson is growing worried about winning the title after bravely backing them to the Premier League title.
Paul Merson admits he is “half scared” that Arsenal will make a mockery of his challenging Premier League title predictions after dropping yet another point against Wolves.
The former star recently said that the title was as good as it was in mid-December, even though there are still months left until the fight. His comments came at a time when the north London side were comfortably ahead and their nearest rivals Manchester City were struggling to get into gear, with Merson insisting they were “not the Manchester City of old”.
Arsenal have now drawn their last two Premier League games and the gap is closing. City could move within two points of the leaders with a win, but Melson is now far less confident that he once was.
Despite their quality and improvement under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal still need to get over the line. Coach Melson was referring to comments from his former captain who felt he had to cross a line this year.
He told Sky Sports: “If they don’t win the league this year, I don’t want to be in their shoes. If they don’t win, I remember Patrick Vieira saying before the Manchester United game it’s now or never. I’m starting to think so. I was very bullish about Arsenal winning the league, but tonight I was half scared.”

The current situation means City have their title hopes in their own hands. Winning all of their matches, including the one against Arsenal at the Etihad, will give the Manchester side more confidence and seal their fifth title in six years.
The draw at Molineux, where Arsenal led 2-0, will only add to the narrative that the Gunners are incapable of getting over the line. Arteta continued to face doubts throughout his trophyless run through 2020, having lost the lead recently against Brentford.

“Bottle jobs, melting, we’re at full capacity right now. We’ve drawn with Brentford, we’re two points clear against the worst team in the league, but we’re at full capacity right now,” admitted Merson.
Arsenal face the North London derby this weekend and Arteta said of the recent setbacks: “So many things went wrong one after the other. It’s best not to judge. We’re all too emotional about this and it’s not the right time to judge.”
“When you’re not performing, you’re at this level and the expectations are high. You have to take that hit because we deserve it too.”
