Jamie Carragher has admitted he is “delighted” that Arsenal have dropped more points in the Premier League title race, but says he still wants to get over the line before Manchester City.

The Gunners held a two-goal lead against bottom-of-the-table Wolves on Wednesday night, but conceded in stoppage time to surrender their advantage and need a point. This means City can move within two points if they win the games they have.

Arsenal have drawn their last two league games and were recently held to a stalemate at Brentford. The lead over the leaders has narrowed and Carragher admitted it will get more interesting as the title race gets underway towards the end of the season.

That said, the former Liverpool defender named Arsenal as favorites to win the title, given the fact that they have continued to put their names on trophies in recent years. Before this season, the last eight Premier League games were shared between City and Liverpool.

Carragher told CBS: “I want Arsenal to win because I think it’s good to have different winners in the league. That means we’ve had three different winners in the last three years and I think that’s a good thing.”

“But you don’t want to run away from the league unless it’s your team. So I’m happy with tonight’s result because it makes the league exciting, it gives us something to talk about, it creates a story between now and the end of the season. So I think it’s good for the Premier League.”

Arsenal have been in every title race since the 2022/23 season, but continue to finish second. In two of those seasons, City managed to catch up in the final stages, but once again Josep Guardiola’s side are looking to overtake them.

The Gunners still have to visit the Etihad and the result at Wolves means the Manchester side now know they can win all of their remaining games and overhaul Mikel Arteta’s side.

North Londoners need to shake off any doubts that they can’t cross the line. They have not won a trophy since the 2020 FA Cup, despite spending huge amounts of money on the team.

They remain in contention for all four trophies this season, but a series of draws in the Premier League have raised questions about whether they can get the job done.
