Manchester United are willing to cut their losses on Jadon Sancho at the end of the season rather than risk paying him his £200,000-a-week wages for another year
Manchester United are said to have decided not to trigger an option in Jadon Sancho’s contract that could help secure a transfer fee for the out-of-favour attacker.
Sancho, 25, returned to the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 in a deal worth a total of £73 million. Unfortunately, however, his time at Old Trafford was a difficult one, with his last Premier League appearance for the club over two years ago.
It was always expected that Sancho would leave Manchester United on a permanent deal this summer after spending the past two seasons away from the club on loan.
And that comes after The Sun claim United are prepared to let Sancho go as a free agent rather than triggering an option in the player’s contract to facilitate a sale.

The report adds that the rationale behind United’s decision is that by letting him go they avoid the risk of having to pay him another year of his £200,000-a-week wage. This is due to Sancho not being able to secure a permanent transfer last summer.
He looked set to join Chelsea on a mandatory loan deal for £25m. However, as Sancho was unable to agree terms with the Blues, the Blues instead paid a penalty and the player returned to United, before being loaned out again to Aston Villa.
The option to make Sancho’s move to Villa Park permanent was included in the deal finalized between United and the Midlands outfit last summer. However, Sancho has only started six of Villa’s 20 Premier League games so far this season, so it seems unlikely that he will be activated.
Casemiro and Marcus Rashford are expected to follow Sancho in leaving Old Trafford this summer, with the former already confirming he will leave when his contract expires.
Rashford joined Barcelona on loan with the prospect of triggering his permanent option, but it is claimed that United will not accept any attempt by Barcelona to reduce the pre-agreed transfer fee.
