Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with a summer exit despite returning to the Liverpool squad, with Tim Sherwood confident the Egyptian star will leave Anfield this year.
Tim Sherwood has no doubt that Mohamed Salah will end his impressive career at Liverpool this summer, saying he is “100 per cent” confident the Egyptian star will decide to leave.
Speculation has been rife over the future of Liverpool’s talisman since the 33-year-old was targeted for Arne Slott earlier this season. Things have calmed down since December’s explosive mixed zone interview (in which Salah accused Slot of “throwing players under the bus”), and he has returned to the Dutchman’s starting lineup after an extended absence at the African Cup of Nations.
Salah hasn’t been able to produce the same incredible level of attack in front of goal as he did last season, but he hinted at a return to form with a goal and an assist in the Reds’ FA Cup victory over Brighton at the weekend.
However, Sherwood does not think the fact that Salah is back in the squad will change anything regarding the attacker’s future, adding that he is confident the player will choose to leave Liverpool.

“Let’s be clear, I think he’s one of the best foreign players we’ve seen in the Premier League. There’s no question that he’s been down this season. Whatever it is, there were some issues between him and the manager. There were some issues between him and the manager.”
“I think he’s 100 per cent going to leave in the summer and I think he’s full of energy right now.”
After praising Salah’s contribution as a player to both Liverpool and the Premier League, Sherwood doubled down on his words, adding: “In my opinion, he leaves the club 100 per cent and at the end of the season, whether it’s some silverware or not, I think he’s getting a great ovation. He deserves the silver medal, that’s for sure, but no matter what happens, he’s been a great servant to the club.”
Salah signed a new two-year contract in April last year, meaning he will be contributing to the Premier League champions until 2027.
Speaking at the weekend, manager Virgil van Dijk made it clear that he wants Salah to remain at Anfield for the remainder of his contract, despite speculation to the contrary.
“The situation is what it is,” said the Liverpool captain. “First of all, we are focused on making this season a success and then we will see what happens after the season ends, but we don’t know what will happen after that.
“I always want Mo to stay because I’m a good friend of his and we’ve been through the good times and the bad together over the years, I don’t want to say the worst, but we’ve been through it together. Like me, he’s got another year, so we’ll see.”
