Martin Odegaard was injured and was seen limping during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brentford in the Premier League on Thursday, but the Norwegian has given an update.
Martin Odegaard admitted he was in “a lot of pain” after being hit by a ball in Arsenal’s draw with Brentford on Thursday, but fears he would suffer a serious injury were allayed. The Gunners captain was treated immediately after Brentford’s 1-1 equaliser, and was seen limping after the game.
Odegaard was injured attempting to challenge Kean Lewis-Potter inside the penalty area. He was unable to prevent the Brentford winger’s equalizer and appeared to be in considerable pain as medical staff rushed in to check on him.
The Norwegian managed to finish the game as Arsenal dropped two points to close the gap at the top of the Premier League to four points. However, Gunners fans were left worried about Odegaard’s fitness as he was seen struggling in mixed zones.
It remains unlikely that he will start in Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Wigan, but he explained the situation in the matchday program.

“I got a little bit injured when they (Brentford) scored, but I hope it’s not too bad,” Odegaard wrote. “We’ll see what happens heading into today’s game and over the next few days.
“The ball was falling, so I tried to clear it, but instead I kicked the player a little, and I stretched my leg too far and hurt my knee.
“I managed to keep going, but on Friday morning I was in a lot of pain so of course I was worried, but thankfully it doesn’t seem to be too bad.”
Odegaard is unlikely to be at risk after just three days of injury, but Arsenal will be aiming to beat Wigan and reach the fifth round as they continue their quest for a place in all four competitions.

“Today is a change of focus to the FA Cup and that is a big goal for us,” Odegaard added. “This group of players hasn’t played in this tournament before, but that’s definitely something we want to do. We know we can do better in this tournament.”
“In recent years, we have been eliminated quite early, so we want to improve on that, and this is another tournament where we want to go all the way.”
Arsenal surprisingly haven’t made it past the fourth round since 2020, with Mikel Arteta saying: “It’s another chance for the team in another competition, which is great given our history in that competition. We’re playing at home again. We’re really excited to recover and go again.”
“We are getting used to playing in different competitions every three days, home and away, understanding what the competition means to the club and to ourselves and taking it one step at a time.”
