Manchester United are yet to sign Harry Maguire to a new contract, but the England defender’s Old Trafford teammates are said to be hoping to offer him new terms.
A majority of Manchester United’s stars believe it would be “insane” for the club to decide not to reach an agreement with Harry Maguire over a new contract, it has been claimed.
The 32-year-old England star has been making a comeback since losing the club captaincy under manager Erik ten Hag, and with Maguire’s current term due to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, there is growing support from the fan base over the possibility of a new contract.
Maguire, who joined United from Leicester City for £80m in 2019, has continued to lead by example without the armband, both before and during Michael Carrick’s impressive interim reign, and his team-mates are apparently hoping he will be rewarded with new terms.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The players think it would be crazy if he wasn’t offered a new contract.

“Harry has endured a lot of ups and downs at United, but he’s come through them all and played really well. He’s highly respected in the dressing room and passes on a lot of knowledge to young players like Aiden Haven and Lenny Yolo.”
“Everyone likes and respects him and the majority of players want the club to sign him.”
The report goes on to add that if United were to offer Maguire a new contract, they would likely ask for a lower wage than the defender’s current £190,000-a-week contract, which would consist of a lower base salary and an increase in performance-based bonuses.
When it comes to renegotiating, Maguire could hold all the cards. He is now free to discuss a free transfer with overseas clubs after entering the final six months of his contract, and it is well documented that he has suitors abroad.
It was reported in January that AC Milan were interested in the former Hull City player, while there are also reports that Maguire’s agent has also held talks with the Turkish club.
