Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has been out of action since December after breaking his leg in a collision with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.
Liverpool forward Alexander Isak aims to be fit in time for the March international break, Sweden manager Graham Potter has revealed. The player, who was signed in the summer for £125m, broke his leg in an away game to Tottenham in December.
The unfortunate injury came shortly after Isak scored a fantastic goal in north London, which saw him tangle with Spurs defender Micky van de Ven. The 26-year-old has since been sidelined with injury, undergoing surgery on both his ankle injury and a fractured fibula.
However, recent images shared by Liverpool show him training alone at the club’s AXA training centre. In these photos, he is seen doing a gym session and some light soccer practice.

These images provide a strong hint that he will return to club action before the end of the season. Potter wants both Isak and Spurs forward Dejan Kulusevski to feature in Sweden’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on March 26.
The former Chelsea boss suggested to Football Direct that both players could recover in time, saying: “I hope they (Isak and Dejan Kulusevski) can play. But these are big injuries. It’s difficult to come back from an injury like that before March, but there’s a chance.”

“Yes, I have spoken to both of them. They are both on their way back and are optimistic. They are training hard at home with their club teams in hopes of playing with us in March.”
However, Slott’s recent comments regarding Issac’s injury were not as hopeful as the Englishman’s comments. Last month, the Dutchman revealed the former Newcastle United striker remains heavily dependent on crutches. “He hasn’t been on the pitch yet,” Slott said.

“He just came out of the walker, which means he hasn’t been on the pitch yet and is not expected to be on the pitch today or tomorrow in terms of recovery work. As we knew, it was going to be a while before he came back.”
When news of Isaac’s fracture first broke, no specific timeline for Isaac’s recovery was given. Prior to his injury against Tottenham, Isak had made 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
Having joined from Newcastle following an interrupted pre-season, it took him quite some time to secure a place in the slot starting XI. He also suffered a groin injury shortly after the 5-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt and was substituted at half-time.
This setback kept him off the pitch for a month, further disrupting his debut season at Liverpool. He was shocked to learn the severity of his injuries.
After the announcement was made, he wrote on social media: “I’m disappointed to be out for a while. It’s time to recover and support from the sidelines. I’ll try to get back as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone at the Reds and everyone who sent me kind messages. I’m sure I’ll be in the spotlight! YNWA.”
Hugo Ekitike, who joined the team in the same summer, has spearheaded the attack admirably in his absence, raising the question of how both Isak and the Frenchman can fit into the team at the same time.
