Barcelona have released details about Marcus Rashford’s contract and whether there is a penalty clause
Barcelona will not face a financial penalty if they reject Marcus Rashford’s permanent transfer, it has been revealed. The England international is in the middle of a season-long loan spell with the Catalan club from Manchester United and has made a huge impact since joining.
He has scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions, with Barça currently at the top of La Liga, just one point behind Real Madrid. The 28-year-old has already expressed his desire to stay at Camp Nou permanently, and it seems unlikely that he will return to Old Trafford this summer.
The Spanish club holds a £26 million option to make the deal permanent, as sporting director Deco explained the terms of the interim deal. In an interview with SPORT, the former Chelsea and Portugal midfielder was asked whether Barcelona would impose a penalty clause if Rashford did not sign on a permanent basis.
He said, “No, this is a loan and we have options.” Asked if he intended to keep Rashford long-term, Deco replied: “Yes, absolutely. I don’t think it was easy for him to get here. He has played at a very high level, with huge demands at a club like Manchester United.”
“Then he spent six months at Aston Villa and did a very good job there. In fact, Aston Villa, if it was possible they would have kept him. I know that because I have talked to the people there. But he just wanted to come to Barça. That is a very positive thing.”

Deco praised Rashford’s decision to accept a significant pay cut from his reported £325,000-a-week salary to secure a move to Barcelona. He said: “We were able to secure a loan and the fact that he accepted a pay cut to make that happen clearly shows he really wanted to come and we are very happy about that.”

“He is a player who will make a big contribution to the team,” Deco continued, speaking about the type of striker he will scout this summer, with Robert Lewandowski’s future uncertain. “We shouldn’t get attached to a particular striker because the team is doing well,” Deco declared.
“We have Ferran[Torres]and Rashford. We’ll see what we can do to make a decision. If you’re talking about the best striker, the best number nine of the last 10 years, it’s Robert[Lewandowski].”
“There is no player like him. Teams tend to prefer other profiles, so it is not easy to go out on the market and look for a player like Roberto. Perhaps Bayern Munich have a more traditional and targeted striker. We have Ferran (Torres) and Rashford. Let’s see what we can do to make a decision.
“The best striker, the best number nine of the last 10 years, it was Robert[Lewandowski]. They prefer more mobile strikers. There is no player with Roberto’s quality and stats. Barça need to look for players with technical ability, the ability to work with teammates and the ability to find solutions.”
Rashford’s absence was keenly felt during Barcelona’s 4-0 defeat at Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final on Thursday. The striker sustained a knee injury in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Mallorca and missed the match.
