Arsenal remain well placed to win the Premier League this season, with instructions given to manager Mikel Arteta ahead of this week’s game against Brentford.
Manager Mikel Arteta has been told to make Kai Havertz his number one striker for the remainder of the season. The Arsenal manager has plenty of attacking options ahead of Thursday night’s game against Brentford, but he is not completely convinced by any of them.
Victor Gokeres had a shaky debut season after joining from Sporting Lisbon, but he still managed to score twice in the win over Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium. Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have both recently returned from long-term issues.
The German has recently scored against Kairat and Chelsea, while Jesus has also recently scored against Inter Milan and Leeds. Former Premier League striker Emile Heskey has suggested that Havertz should now lead the line among the three.
“I love watching Kai Havertz play and he should be a mainstay in Mikel Arteta’s forward line. Even when he was heavily criticized, I watched his movements carefully and it was subtle, but always intentional,” he told aGamble.
“He creates space not only for himself but for others. It shows that he is selfless and thinks about what is best for the team, not just as an individual. This is very easy to do as a forward.”

“Havertz will also be back in this Arsenal squad at the right time. Mikel Arteta needs every player he can get, because playing in all four competitions means he needs depth and reliable forwards.”
“We are approaching the business end of the season and given his experience, Arsenal will need a player like Havertz in the dressing room and on the pitch to produce performances worthy of winning trophies.”
Heskey’s comments come just days after former Arsenal star Paul Merson claimed he still had issues with Arteta’s starting forwards. He told Sky Sports: “Arteta has no idea what to do at the moment. If he played Jesus like he did against Manchester United, he struggled.”

“Then the week after he plays Gokeres, he struggles and then Jesus comes on. This time Jesus plays, he struggles, then Gokeres comes on and scores. It’s a really difficult question in terms of what to do at the moment, because it’s not the players who start that really perform, but the players who come on as subs.”
“They’re both very hardworking and they tear down defenders. When they come on with 20 minutes left, the centre-halves are tired and worn out.”
