Thomas Frank has had a miserable debut season at Tottenham Hotspur since replacing Ange Postecoglou as fans continue to call for the return of Mauricio Pochettino.
Thomas Frank has insisted it is “natural” that Tottenham fans have called for Mauricio Pochettino to return. The Argentine had a brilliant spell in North London between 2014 and 2019.
He led the North London side to the Champions League final and helped them finish runners-up in the Premier League. And despite the club failing to reach those heights under previous managers such as Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, Pochettino remains respected by fans.
Ange Postecoglou led the club to the Europa League title last season, but was ultimately sacked. His replacement, Frank, had a disastrous debut season, with Spurs languishing in 15th place in the Premier League under his stewardship.
This led to fans clamoring for Pochettino to return to the game, which Frank can fully understand. He said: “I met Mauricio a few times and he was a great guy and a great coach.

“I think he’s a legend[here]. I don’t think he won trophies, but he helped transform the club from that stage to where it ended up, where we were close to winning the Premier League title, getting to the Champions League final. He helped transform the club, getting to the Champions League final.”
“A close margin means you’re very close to winning. Sometimes it’s about football, sometimes it’s close. Pochettino has done a great job here and he’s a true legend, so if the fans are singing his name, it’s only natural.”
And while Frank understands the love Spurs fans have for their former manager, he urged supporters to help Spurs as they aim to lift them out of the relegation zone. The north London side are now six points clear of that table.

“There’s no question we’re desperate to win the game,” Frank said. “It’s hopeless and we’re focused on Newcastle tomorrow.
“It’s a great opportunity to play against a good team. That’s the most important thing. Can we go there tomorrow and get the three points? That would be very good.”
“Then we climb out of there and move forward. That’s what we have to do. And that’s the main focus.
“When you’re not winning enough you have to be desperate, because if you’re not desperate you don’t understand the situation you’re in in terms of not winning enough. You have to turn things around and win enough football matches. That’s what we want from our fans and what we want from the team and the club.”
