Michael Carrick provides an update on the club’s injury situation, with Mason Mount nearing a return and Matthijs de Ligt continuing his recovery.
Mason Mount is close to returning to Manchester United’s squad after picking up an injury in training last week, while Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined with a back injury.
Mount missed last Sunday’s game against Fulham with a minor bruise and missed Wednesday’s training session, but United manager Michael Carrick has suggested he is inching closer to a return and could be available for Saturday’s game against Tottenham and Tuesday’s game against West Ham.
However, the Manchester Evening News reports that there are no signs that De Ligt’s sidelined sideline will end anytime soon. The Dutch centre-half has been sidelined for more than two months with a lower back injury and while Carrick praised his positive attitude during his rehabilitation period, he admitted he remains sidelined.

Carrick said: “Mason is faster. He’s not that far off. I hope it’s not for long.” “Matta (de Ligt) is working towards his return, is improving step by step and is very positive.”
Patrick Dorg is the only player missing after picking up a hamstring problem against Arsenal. United were against making any additions in the January transfer window as they prepare for the summer market, but Carrick insisted uncertainty over who the manager would be was not a problem.
“The players hit the nail on the head and were completely focused,” he said. “We all know the bigger situation and what happens
“As a player, you focus on what’s in front of you and try to achieve what you can. I’m not worried about anything. The players were better than I expected.
“We’re focused on getting better, improving and getting to where we want to be. It’s a small step, but a big end to the season.”
