James, a leading Welsh lawyer and brother of former Arsenal and West Ham striker John Hartson, has died at the age of 53.
Former Arsenal and West Ham striker John Hartson’s older brother was found dead on Thursday.
James Hartson, 53, was a leading barrister in Wales before his “sudden and unexpected” death. Wales Online reported that Mr Hartson’s body was found in a property in Swansea and his death is not being treated as suspicious.
The report adds that proceedings at Swansea Crown Court have been suspended as a sign of respect following confirmation of James’ death. Judge Geraint Walters, who adjourned the murder trial, told the jury there had been a “sudden, unexplained death” of the bar member, which had “shocked” the courtroom.

South Wales Police confirmed on Thursday morning that the body of a 53-year-old man had been found in a property in the Port Tennant area of Swansea. Responded to calls over welfare concerns.
A formal identification has not yet been made, but the man’s family and the coroner have been informed.
James worked for 20 years with police forces in London and Cardiff, before becoming a solicitor, working in the Special Branch and as a detective at New Scotland Yard.
His younger brother John played for both Arsenal and West Ham in the Premier League and represented Celtic later in his career. The former striker won 51 caps for Wales and scored 14 goals.
Hartson’s eldest sister, Haley, tragically passed away in 2020. Mr Hartson paid tribute to her with a photo of them together, writing: “Today we very sadly lost our beloved Hayley.
“We are completely devastated. We will miss her so much. There are no words. Rest in peace, sister.”
