Watford have announced the resignation of manager Javi Gracia. He resigned less than four months into his second spell at Vicarage Road after a 2-0 defeat at home to Swansea City.
Watford have announced the resignation of manager Javi Gracia, meaning the club are looking for their 11th manager in the last five years. The 55-year-old Spaniard left just four months into his second spell at Vicarage Road following a 2-0 home defeat to Swansea City.
Following this defeat, Gracia chose to part ways with the club, and Watford unexpectedly announced his departure. Despite the club being 10th in the Championship. The club released a statement: “The club is saddened and disappointed to announce the resignation of head coach Javi Gracia.
“While we maintain the belief that Javi is the right person to lead the club towards promotion, Javi felt he was no longer motivated and was not the right person to continue coaching this exciting group of young players.”

“We respect his decision and accept his wish to leave Vicarage Road with immediate effect. Charlie Daniels, Dan Gosling and Adrian Mariappa will lead the team against Hull City on Tuesday night.
“We remain well placed in the Championship, four points and 17 games from the play-offs. Everyone at the club truly believes this is a team that can challenge for promotion.”
“I would like to thank Javi and his team for their work during his two years at the club. We wish him and his family all the best and will always receive a warm welcome at Watford.”
The situation is particularly alarming given recent departure schedules. Since the beginning of 2021, the club has cycled through combinations of veterans and former players, rarely allowing coaches to see a full season.
Tom Cleverley (2024-2025) was a rare exception, lasting more than a year before being fired in May 2025. After a short spell under Paulo Pezzolano, he stepped down in October 2025, paving the way for Gracia’s spiritual comeback.
Gracia, who famously led the club to the 2019 FA Cup final, was brought back to bring “stability” but reportedly resigned after just four months, frustrated by the lack of activity in the January transfer window.
The Hornets are currently looking for new players in the dugout as they aim for the championship playoffs.
