Jack Grealish could have played his final game in an Everton shirt after manager David Moyes admitted his biggest concern was the Manchester City loanee’s foot injury
Jack Grealish’s dreams of playing for England at the World Cup have been dashed after manager David Moyes admitted he is unlikely to play again this season. Mr Grealish, 30, suffered a stress fracture in his foot earlier this month and may need surgery.
Moyes admitted that the Manchester City loanee will miss the rest of the season regardless of whether he receives a sanction. Speaking ahead of Everton’s trip to Brighton on Saturday, Moyes explained: “We believe he will probably need surgery, but it is not completely certain yet, but he will likely miss the remainder of the season.
“It’s a real shame for the player, for the club and for all of us here. He’s going to be missed because he plays a very important role and he’s a great guy with a lot of experience for us. He’s done a lot of really good things for us.”
The former Aston Villa star had hoped to join Thomas Tuchel’s side this summer. He last appeared for the Three Lions in September 2024, but Tuchel is yet to call him up since securing the Wembley hot seat.

Grealish spoke to Tuchel after he was left out of the squad in October. “First of all you want to play well for your club because that’s what we do every week, but obviously you want to be in the England squad,” the 30-year-old told Sky Sports.
“But I understand that. I spoke to the manager and I understand that there is a lot of competition, especially in the left-wing position at the moment. Rassie (Marcus Rashford) flying, (Eberechi) Eze, Anthony Gordon, everyone has done very well. I can’t really complain. That’s the way it is and I hope we can continue to perform and influence the game.”
The injury also puts Grealish’s future on Merseyside in serious doubt. Everton have the option to sign him permanently by paying City £50m.

Grealish ceased to meet the requirements during last season, until manager Pep Guardiola did not take him to last summer’s Club World Cup and made it clear he was no longer in his plans. City, who paid a record £100m for the playmaker from Villa in 2022, have also brought in a number of forwards over the past year, including signing Antoine Semenyo for £62.5m.
Grealish has shown creativity since moving to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and Everton could try to negotiate a lower price with City. The Toffees could take advantage of the fact that he only has 12 months left on his contract when he returns to Manchester in May.
