The tragic death of Alexander Saracho at the age of 19 in Capiata, Paraguay, prompted his football club, Club 30 de Agosto, to come together and organize a unique memorial.
A heartbroken football club has come together to deliver a unique send-off after the tragic death of their teenage captain. Alexander Zaracho died at the age of 19 in Capiata, Paraguay.
The soccer player was a passenger on a motorbike when he was allegedly hit by a speeding driver. He was hospitalized for several months, but succumbed to his injuries on January 24th.
The grieving family buried him the next day and invited the whole community and members of the football club to the wake. Zaracho’s club, Club 30 de Agosto, then organized a touching tribute to the young captain.
Zaracho’s coffin was taken to the club’s pitch and placed in front of the goal. The ball was kicked into the coffin and bounced across the goal line as hundreds of spectators holding white balloons looked on.

“His departure leaves an immeasurable void in our organization and all those he shared on and off the court. Alexander was an example of leadership, dedication, camaraderie and values that will forever remain in our club’s history.”
“We would like to inform you that the wake will be held at your home in Roxas Cañada 9 Capiata. Our deepest condolences go to your family, friends and loved ones at this time of deep sadness. Rest in peace, Captain. You will always be in our hearts.”
One person responded, “I feel torn apart by the pain of you. There are no words to console me. Beautiful angel, fly high. Give strength to my parents, sister, grandparents, uncles, and aunts.”
Another person wrote: “My condolences to the Zaracho family who have suffered such a great loss. I have no words of comfort for the parents, just a lot of strength.”
A third added: “Rest in peace champ. You have fought so much. You are already in a place where there is no suffering or pain.”
Sharing a video tribute, the club captioned it: “The legacy of our captain Alex Zaracho will live forever in our hearts and in the history of the club. We will always remember you.”
