Arne Slott hints Liverpool could be in the market despite suffering another injury during Liverpool’s 6-0 Champions League win against Qarabag
Manager Arne Slott has said that Liverpool will check the status of Jeremy Frimpong before any emergency measures are taken in the transfer window. The Dutch player was withdrawn from the Champions League game against Qarabag due to an injury.
It is the latest injury to Liverpool’s defense that they have had to deal with this season. Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are currently sidelined due to long-term knee problems, while Joe Gomez is also sidelined.
Slott provided an update on Frimpong, saying: “It’s a muscle injury, but we don’t know how long it will last. It’s not a knee (injury) because it’s a muscle, and muscles usually have something to do with overloading players.”
“Of course, it’s not necessarily because he developed in the moment, but it’s a risk. That’s why we left out Hugo and Florian again tonight, because these are players who are not used as much as Macca or Dom (Szoboszlai), and they play for a long time at both levels.”

Liverpool are without a traditional right-back and could make a new addition in the remaining days of the January transfer window. When asked if the team might consider adding more players, Slott added: “As a club, we always make decisions that we think are at least wise decisions.
“So we don’t just think about the short term, we look at the long term, the longer term. That’s why we also sign young players, very good players, but young players who can still develop. Now we can see this development in several players.”
“And it always comes down to whether we have players that we think can help us. If we do, can we afford them? And with our players coming back from injuries as well, will this help us in the long-term future as well?”

“As I said earlier, we don’t have a team where you have four right-backs, 12 midfielders and three or four number nines. That doesn’t work here. So we have to do the smart thing, not just for the immediate future, but for the longer future.”
“Let’s see how Jeremy (Frimpong) is doing first. He probably won’t be able to play Saturday, but he might be able to play a day or two later. We’re on a one-game-a-week schedule right now, so there will usually be fewer injuries, but you never know.”
Liverpool defeated Qarabag on Wednesday to seal their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. Alexis Mac Allister scored twice, with goals from Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa.
The Reds return to action on Saturday night when they host Newcastle United at Anfield.
