Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain after his attack on the club and Arne Slott in December, leading to talk of the Egyptian leaving Anfield.
Danny Murphy has claimed Mohamed Salah could choose to remain at Liverpool if he works under a new manager, with the quality of the Egyptian’s relationship with Arne Slott still unclear.
Salah has been a key player for the Reds for about 10 years since joining from Roma in 2017, breaking records. Currently over 30 years old, his form has declined this season and he was even placed on the bench.
This led to a rant from the forward before Christmas, claiming the club had thrown him under the bus and that he had nothing to do with Slott.
As a result, talk of leaving Salah, who has a particularly lucrative contract, gained momentum. Although he remains with the club for now, there are growing expectations that he may leave in the summer. But Murphy believes changing the dugout could give him “new life.”
He told BestBettingSites: “Is this Mo Salah’s last season at Anfield? I think so, yeah. I know his contract is longer, but given what’s happened so far, how the team has performed and how he’s performed, most people would be surprised if he stayed another year.”

“The only caveat is that if a new manager comes and really wants to build a team around him, try to get another year from him and have that conversation. I don’t know Mo Salah personally, but maybe he can be given a new stimulus and a new lease on life under another manager.”
Despite winning the Premier League title in his debut year, Slott is under pressure. Despite spending a British record amount in the summer, Liverpool have endured a notable underperformance and could still miss out on the Champions League.
The Athletic reports that Liverpool’s leaders still have faith in Slott. Despite the pressure given the circumstances, the bond between the Dutchman and sporting director Richard Hughes remains strong. There is also sympathy for what he has had to face, such as major changes to the squad and the tragic death of Diogo Jota.
They surged towards the title last season, led by Salah’s goalscoring exploits, with the Egyptian scoring 34 goals, the most since his debut season. However, his goals have dried up this season and he has yet to reach double digits.
This means he could hit his lowest numbers since becoming a Liverpool player, calling into question the investment the club have made in him. The Saudi Pro League is known to be targeting big names again this summer, but they have previously missed out on signing a forward.
Murphy himself concluded: “I think it would be surprising if he was still wearing a Liverpool shirt at the start of next season.”
