Manchester United are enjoying a good period of form under new manager Michael Carrick, but their focus is already set on next season as they explore more permanent options.
Manchester United’s new manager could manage his first game in Helsinki as the club continues to finalize plans for next season. Despite Michael Carrick’s excellent influence, the Red Devils are still searching for a new permanent boss.
The former midfielder replaced Ruben Amorim until the end of the season earlier this month, with strong results in wins over Manchester City and Arsenal. However, plans remain for Carrick to step down ahead of the 2026/27 season.
And plans are already being made for next season, even though a man has yet to be found to take over the reins. According to The Sun, United bosses plan to organize pre-season games in both Helsinki and Gothenburg.
Negotiations are still ongoing, but the plan appears to be nearing completion. United usually visit the US for a lucrative pre-season tour, but plans appear to have changed as the World Cup will be held in the country, along with Mexico and Canada.

If all goes as expected, this game could be United’s new manager’s first chance to take control of the team. Scandinavia is no stranger to the Red Devils, who started last season’s pre-season calendar with a game against Leeds United, and in 2016 they faced Turkish giants Galatasaray in Gothenburg.
And while the pre-season calendar is taking shape, United will no doubt be looking to end this season on a positive note. The Red Devils currently sit fourth in the table heading into this weekend’s clash with Fulham.
Carrick reportedly has Champions League qualification as the club’s target between now and May. When asked how he has found work so far, he replied: “I’m enjoying it. It’s a great position to be in right now. As for what’s going to happen, I’m not going to answer every week. I’m having fun and I’m going to continue to do the best I can.”

Meanwhile, defender Harry Maguire praised Carrick and his achievements after the win over Arsenal. He said, “Michael came in and did a great job with us. He brought fresh energy. The group really revitalized.”
Despite Carrick’s impressive past, a number of high-profile managers are rumored to be involved in the job. England manager Thomas Tuchel is on the club’s shortlist alongside Mauricio Pochettino and Carlo Ancelotti.
