England begin their World Cup campaign in less than five months, but Jamie Carragher has suggested the squad Thomas Tuchel should consider ahead of the tournament.
Jamie Carragher has made a number of outrageous statements, claiming Eberechi Eze should be left out of England’s World Cup squad. The Three Lions’ tournament kicks off in just under five months, but manager Thomas Tuchel will already be thinking about his team.
But former Liverpool star Carragher has some advice for the German ahead of England’s Group L opener against Croatia in Texas. Speaking on Sky Sports with former Chelsea star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, he selected the full 26-man squad.
Among them, he selected 10 certainties, including stars such as Jordan Pickford, Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane. However, many other decisions were a little more difficult.
For England’s wide man position, Carragher named Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden, but left out Arsenal duo Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke. Carragher said: “Cole Palmer is not a sure thing, but he’s a great footballer.
“He hasn’t been doing well at Chelsea because of injuries, but remember his performance in the Club World Cup final against PSG. He was out of this world. He scored in the final (Euro 2024 for England). He’s going.”

“For me, Phil Foden will also go. But you can’t play both of them (Foden and Palmer) in the same team. I think Rashford and I have made a decision… I don’t think the outsiders have done enough. I have decided to use Anthony Gordon. He is a reliable player. He needs to score more goals, but we have him ahead of[Noni]Maduke. I don’t think he will play enough football.”
Carragher also had to make a number of decisions regarding his midfield options, along with Bellingham, Rice and Nottingham Forest star Elliott Anderson. A surprising name that came up was Manchester United’s Koby Mainu, despite a difficult season.
Explaining his selection, Carragher said: “It’s not just his (last) two performances, it’s what he’s done for England. He’s played in finals; he’s played in finals.”

“He has to have a good run, but what we saw against England, against the Netherlands (Euro 2024 semi-final), his performance that night at such a young age… it was like he was playing with his mates. It was unbelievable.”
Another controversial name was also included: former Liverpool star Jordan Henderson. Carragher said: “Henderson isn’t in the Brentford squad, but when you talk about the 26 players, I think it’s possible[to select him]. He’s not just there for the football. He’s had a great career in England. He could be a wildcard, he could be a bridge between the coaching staff and the players.”
