Arsenal suffered a 3-2 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday, reducing the gap at the top of the Premier League from seven to four points.
Arsenal are undoubtedly teetering in the Premier League title race, but remain clear favorites, according to Michael Owen. The Gunners suffered their first home defeat of the season as Manchester United secured a stunning 3-2 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Arsenal took the lead through an own goal from Lisandro Martinez, but a terrible error from Martin Zvimendi allowed Brian Mbeumo to make it 1-1 before half-time. Patrick Dorg then put United ahead with a long-range strike and the home side equalized with Mikel Merino’s wicked shot from a corner, but Michael Carrick’s side converted from a curler from Matheus Cunha.
Arsenal’s defeat was followed by wins for Manchester City and Aston Villa, reducing the lead at the top of the Premier League to four points. Mikel Arteta’s side are now winless in their last three league games, having drawn 0-0 with Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
Arsenal have won all seven of their Champions League games, holding a 3-2 aggregate lead heading into the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea, and are still in the FA Cup. And Owen believes it is too soon to write them off, despite their recent shaky form in the league as they bid to win their first title since 2003/04.

“Everyone was given a bit of a chance,” Owen told Premier League Productions. “I don’t think Manchester City have been great this season, but wow, they’re playing pretty average and they’re only four points behind them. It’s a huge result for Aston Villa today and it puts them into contention.”
“I still think Arsenal are the ones to concede. I think they’re the best team in the league, the most consistent, the most solid, probably the best team. But there are doubts. They’ve never done it before or for a long time, so we’ll see how it goes. But two points from nine is unstable.”
Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has criticized his former club’s resilience, claiming too many key players did not feature after the defeat to United. Asked to respond to the comments, Arteta said: “Finally, come match day, we have to show on the pitch the mental strength we have.

“We were really good in Milan, but today we weren’t as good. I don’t know if it was mental because of the amount of play they played, but we were technically inferior in certain aspects of the game, especially against a team that punishes you a lot when you make a mistake. That was the difference.”
Arsenal play Kairat in their final Champions League group stage match on Wednesday before traveling to Leeds at the weekend. They will then defeat Chelsea in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals, aiming to advance to the final for the first time this season.
