Liverpool appear to have made a decision on Andy Robertson’s future after calling off talks with Tottenham Hotspur, potentially leaving Kostas Tsimikas in an awkward position
Roma have confirmed they have held talks with Liverpool over the return of Kostas Tsimikas, despite Andy Robertson potentially remaining at the club. The Reds were in a position to potentially bid farewell to their long-serving left-back amid negotiations with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
It has been suggested that a deal has been agreed in principle between the two clubs, with a deal expected to be finalized after the end of the Champions League group stage. However, that depends on Liverpool strengthening their left-back options, with Tsimikas seen as a potential option.
The Greek defender is currently in the middle of a season-long loan deal with Italian giants Roma. And manager Frédéric Massara has since confirmed that negotiations are ongoing.
“The whole situation is evolving. We are in dialogue with Liverpool and we will see how it develops over the next few days,” Massara said.
However, Robertson is currently set to remain at Anfield, with any contract terminated, and it remains to be seen whether the Reds will continue their attempts to bring Tsimikas back. In any case, manager Arne Slott seems to have gotten his wish with the Scottish defender and has indicated that he wants to keep him at the club.

After the defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend, he said: “I think we need all the players. In my opinion, Lobo needed to come on at half-time. We always knew it was impossible for Milos (Kerkes) to play another 90 minutes against a very competitive Bournemouth side, so we knew we would have to bring on (Robertson).”
“We had already made one substitution in the first half and there were only two minutes left, so we thought, ‘Let’s bring in Robbo at half-time to make sure Milos is available for the rest of the season.’
“We have a lot of games that we have to play with the players that are available. We have to deal with that as well. The last thing we need at the moment is more injuries.”

Meanwhile, captain Virgil van Dijk agreed with Slott’s wish to keep Robertson at the club. He said: “He’s my vice-captain. Robbo is a very important member of our team and I want him to stay, but we’ll see what happens.”
Liverpool will return to action in midweek and will face Qarabag in their final Champions League group stage game before welcoming Newcastle to St James’ Park at the weekend.
