Jamie Carragher has spoken passionately about Liverpool’s situation. Arne Slott has come under intense scrutiny from fans despite going undefeated in 13 games.
Jamie Carragher has accused a section of Liverpool’s fan base of being disrespectful to manager Arne Slott. There has been a lot of negativity surrounding Slott’s decisions recently, with his team booing him after the 1-1 draw with Burnley last weekend.
The defending Premier League champions are in fourth place, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal after 22 games. They remain unbeaten in 13 games in all competitions until the end of November, but have drawn four games in a row in the league, leaving them just ahead of the chasing pack led by Manchester United and Chelsea.
Slott managed to stabilize the situation after a terrible start to the season and a painful spat with Mohamed Salah. However, Liverpool still have a number of issues to resolve at both ends of the pitch. Wednesday night’s 3-0 win over Marseille in the Champions League was timely, but there remains some bad feeling towards Slott in the fanbase, much of which Carragher feels is unfair.
“I know I feel really good today after a really good result and performance in Marseille. I want to convey my position as a coach,” he said in the Overlap Fan Debate presented by Sky Bet.

“Looking at social media, I’m starting to get a little irritated. I know social media should always be a barometer of what every football fan is thinking, but I feel there’s a real disdain for the manager on social media from Liverpool supporters, given what he’s done[for the club].”
“I know it wasn’t a great season, but I was a bit taken aback by some of the stuff. I think the fans are smart because they don’t necessarily agree with it, but I don’t like it. It’s been six months since we won the league title and I think this is a bit disrespectful. It’s almost as if[the fans]have no idea what he’s doing at all.”
Asked about the atmosphere before the Marseille game, Slott told TNT Sports: “Don’t people expect me to be able to do that? To be successful? It’s new to me, but I was surprised to hear that after a year and a half of joining, if the club has already won the Premier League twice in 30 years.”

“But if that’s the case, you have to accept it. We’ve tried the same thing this season as we did last season. Whenever we lose by one goal, we make attacking substitutions and play as an attacking team as possible.”
“With the amount of possession we have, we can’t play attacking football. Sometimes it’s a disadvantage that we have that much possession, because then people expect more from the ball you have.”
“But the moments when you don’t have it, you have to press very high, because with a low block you can’t hold the ball. We all know what we need to do to take the next step in this transition phase, but sometimes you need a little patience.”
