Manchester United are searching for a mole within the club after problems resurfaced under manager Ruben Amorim in Michael Carrick’s first game in charge.
Manchester United have launched an internal investigation to find out how Michael Carrick’s starting XI against Man City was revealed online before kick-off. The Red Devils have had a longstanding problem with information leaking from the club and have launched several internal investigations.
Carrick secured the three points in their first game as interim players, with Patrick Dogue and Brian Mbeumo finding the net at Old Trafford. Losing teams is not a new problem for United, and has been going on for almost a decade.
Jose Mourinho has also been plagued by this problem, and publicly acknowledged it sarcastically in a press conference before the 2018 FA Cup final. Mr Carrick did not comment on the issue, which came up again last weekend, but Reuben Amorim’s tenure was also plagued by leaks and frustration.
Now, The Sun claims the club have launched an investigation to find the mole after the starting eleven appeared online precisely hours before last week’s derby win.

Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Amadou and Mbeumo all returned to the starting XI, while Benjamin Sesco and Matheus Cunha were dropped to the bench. This was a successful move, allowing Carrick to utilize Dorg on the left side of the attack.
Following Liverpool’s draw with Burnley at the weekend, United dominated the game and moved closer to the top four.
This is not the first time the club has investigated the cause of a data breach. The Red Devils reportedly launched an investigation in December into how Amorim’s intentions to change the system became clear on the day of the game against Bournemouth.

The Mail reported at the time that United Airlines was determined to identify the person who provided the inside information to prevent this from happening again in the future. A club spokesperson declined to comment.
United were also reported to be “furious” in September after suggestions that Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes was “unhappy”.
The club’s team line-up has also been announced ahead of the Manchester derby in December 2024.
“I know the story,” Amorim said at the time. “I don’t know, but I think it’s impossible to fix it now because there are a lot of people at the club and the players are talking to their agents.
“I don’t know. It’s hard to know because you can tell by talking to your friends. It’s not good, but let’s go to the next game and see if we can find the next starting lineup.”
Countless articles surfaced last season, including those about team issues and team news, and United’s senior management took steps to determine the source of the leaks within camp.
Previous M16 managers under Erik ten Hag, Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Mourinho were similarly affected by leaks. This is clearly a big problem for United, but Carrick will now focus on preparing his team for their Premier League clash with Arsenal.
Regarding the challenges ahead, United’s caretaker manager said: “I’m looking forward to the game. It’s a big challenge. They’re a very good team. Obviously they have so many strong points in their game. It’s a big challenge.”
“There is a reason why they are in this position in the Champions League. We are fully aware of that and we are not taking it lightly. We feel we are in a good position and we go there looking forward to the game.”
“That’s where we want to be and we want to be positive with that energy and enthusiasm, but we know it won’t be easy.
“We have ideas about what we need to do and how we need to get there. Thanks to Arsenal, they are in a very strong position in building the team and recruiting.”
“Mikel takes credit for that and he’s done a great job. We have our own idea of what we need to do and what it takes to get there and we’re working towards that.”
