Liam Rosenior believes his new boss is working with the best talent in the business after watching Chelsea narrowly beat Paphos with Moises Caicedo making the difference.
Chelsea’s new manager Liam Rosenior believes Moises Caicedo will allow him to work with the best team in the world in his position.
The Ecuadorian scored the winning goal in the final minute as the Blues beat Paphos in the Champions League to move into the top eight. Caicedo has added goals to his game and continues to grow his influence at Stamford Bridge.
He was highly rated during his time at Brighton, sparking a transfer battle between Chelsea and Liverpool, and continued to develop in west London. The midfielder forms a great partnership with Enzo Fernandes in the center of the pitch.
Caicedo’s ability to break up play and win the ball back marks him as one of the best defensive midfielders, but Rosenior believes he is even better than that.
He told TNT Sports: “Great. As I said before, defensively, for me, he’s the best defensive midfielder in the world right now. It’s fun to work with him, when he has the ball, when he doesn’t have the ball, how he blocks the pass line, how he makes the players around him better. I don’t know how many headers he took in his career, but it was a great header in a really, really important moment of the game.”

Caicedo has already scored five goals this season, his highest in a season since moving to Europe. The 24-year-old has become indispensable, but the player himself has downplayed his influence in the dressing room, preferring instead to take leadership with his actions.
“A lot of people say I’m a leader. I don’t talk about it much in the locker room, but I like to show it every day on the pitch and in training. That’s important,” he said.
Former Chelsea player Joe Cole insists the huge outlay it took to bring Caicedo to the capital now looks like good business, but many question whether the Blues paid more than the odds of winning Caicedo’s contract.
“He’s always growing,” Cole said. “People shunned the £100m spent on him and it took a while for him to settle down. About 18 months ago he returned to being a midfield disruptor, breaking down, linking passes, scoring from that base and adding important goals and leadership.”
