Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has decided to leave the Premier League side at the end of the season and is said to be linked with Manchester United.
Oliver Glasner has confirmed he will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season. The Palace manager’s current contract expires in June and the Austrian has decided not to sign a new contract.
He is thought to be one of the names being considered by Manchester United, who are due to appoint a new long-term manager in the summer after appointing Michael Carrick as interim head coach until the end of the season.
“I already told the club several months ago that I wanted a new challenge,” Glasner said at a press conference on Friday. “We had a very long discussion and I told him (chairman Steve Parish) that I would not be signing a new contract.
“At the time we agreed that it was best to keep this a secret between us, so it would be best to keep it a secret for three months. But it’s important to be clear now and we didn’t want to talk about it because we had very busy schedules. Steve and I want the best for Crystal Palace.”
Glasner joined Palace from Eintracht Frankfurt in February 2024, replacing Roy Hodgson. He helped Palace win the FA Cup last season, winning 41 of 95 games.

His final decision came after he promised to “intensify” consultations with senior palace officials earlier this month. “I think we will intensify the negotiations over the next few weeks,” he said ahead of the FA Cup defeat to Macclesfield.
“In relation to Macclesfield, we head north again on Friday. Then after Macclesfield we all have three days off and then we have to aim for the usual four weeks. We hope to intensify negotiations in those weeks and a final decision will be taken.”
Glasner has been in the spotlight at United following the sacking of manager Ruben Amorim earlier this month. The Austrian manager favors the same 3-4-3 tactical system as the sacked Amorim, and United are looking for a long-term successor after handing over the reins to Carrick.
United executives, led by chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, are leading the search for a new manager. Glasner is one of the names being considered, along with Carrick, England manager Thomas Tuchel and former Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate.
“There’s been speculation since I arrived, so believe me, I don’t care about that. I can sign today, a player can sign an extension today and leave in the summer, so for me, contract terms in this day and age say nothing about the future,” Glasner added in a speech last week.
Palace were kicked out of the FA Cup by non-league side Macclesfield last weekend and are currently 13th in the Premier League ahead of a trip to Sunderland on Saturday afternoon. They are without a win in nine competitive games and will also lose captain Marc Gehi, who is on the brink of a move to Manchester City in the January window.
