Arsenal are top of the Premier League and Champions League tables, but a win in the former could sustain the Gunners’ dominance.
Mikel Arteta has turned Arsenal into the best team in Europe. The Gunners dominated the Champions League, achieving a club-record seven consecutive wins in the competition.
But despite winning Europe, there is no doubt that winning the Premier League title is more important to Arteta than any other trophy this season. In my opinion, this will give Arsenal the upper hand in English football and there will be many more silver medals to come.
For a club that has only won the FA Cup once during Arteta’s six-year reign, all of this sounds remarkably arrogant and entitled. Beggars can’t choose, and Arsenal fans would be happy to win either of the big prizes.
But they have this great opportunity because Arteta has built a formidable team, a great team and they look like the best team in Europe. Arsenal defeated Inter Milan 3-1 at San Siro on Tuesday night. They are currently the best team in Italy and are quite high up in Serie A.
Arsenal also played their best 45 minutes of football this season against the likes of Harry Kane and beat Germany’s best team, Bayern Munich, at the Emirates.

Arsenal won at Athletic Bilbao in September and although they are not the best in Spain, Arteta should be confident of beating the best they have to offer.
Arteta clearly gained experience and knowledge this year after beating Real Madrid last year and reaching the semi-finals. The reason Arsenal are so strong defensively is because William Saliba and Gabriel are strong forces in the final half and David Raya is a great keeper.
Declan Rice and Martin Zvimendi have been excellent in midfield, while Bukayo Saka has shown time and time again that he is a great performer on the top stage.
Goals are an issue, but Gabriel Jesus and even Victor Gokeres showed they can score against Inter Milan. That is one of the concerns, but Kai Havertz has returned from injury.
Arsenal are currently the favorites to win the Champions League, and although finishing in the top two doesn’t necessarily guarantee a favorable draw, a knockout win that sees them play the second leg at home would be advantageous.
No one in Europe wants to play against Arsenal and probably the most difficult draw will be against another English team. Because these matches could quickly turn into bloody and thunderous derby matches.
But Arsenal should be confident as they lead the Premier League by seven points and have conquered the best and toughest league in the world.
From here, Arsenal’s biggest threat may be themselves. Because that’s everything to them. They may be suffering from the woes of being runners-up for three years in a row.
And it’s a reminder of why winning the title this year is so important. It’s their first title in 22 years, and it will be a big psychological hurdle for them to overcome.
The Champions League is a cup competition. You can get lucky along the way. Was Liverpool the best team in 2005? Chelsea may have been lucky in 2012. However, both teams had their best performance all season when winning the national title.
Even Arsene Wenger couldn’t win the Champions League with the Invincibles, but they were arguably the best team in Europe. If Arsenal win the title this year, there is no doubt that the Champions League will follow under Arteta.
