Dominik Szoboszlai has been a shining light for Liverpool after a difficult season at Anfield, but he has opened up about the possibility of extending his stay on Merseyside.
Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai is unsure where his future lies despite negotiating a new contract. The Hungarian has been a shining light for the Reds since joining from RB Leipzig for £60m in 2023.
He signed a five-year deal upon his arrival and is now halfway through that first deal, so Liverpool are eyeing an extension to his stay. The Merseysiders are hoping to reward the 25-year-old’s excellent performances with a new contract and have begun negotiations.
However, Liverpool have found it difficult to sign star players to extended contracts in recent seasons. Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are entering the final months of their respective contracts, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Ibrahima Konate and Andrew Robertson are among the players whose contracts end this season. Szoboszlai confirmed that negotiations over a new contract are underway, but he cannot guarantee an agreement.

He said: “Of course, there are always consultations. You in the media do a lot of good for the people and that’s your job, so you keep working, but there are consultations, but certainly no decisions have been made.”
“There is always progress, but no decisions have been made yet. I will continue to train every week and every time and do my best for the team and the fans. Let’s see what happens in the future.”
“I’m happy here, but I know how football works and that’s something everyone has to consider.”
Szoboszlai has made 123 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 23 goals, six of which have come this season. Despite his outstanding performances, Liverpool have endured a difficult season.

Arne Slott’s side only drew 1-1 with struggling Burnley at the weekend, leaving them fourth, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Szoboszlai added of his team’s problems this season: “It’s always the same thing. We’re really behind for five minutes, then we concede a goal and then we come back from there, but it’s difficult to score against Premier League teams.”
“We have to concentrate for 90 minutes, not just for 90 minutes, maybe 85 minutes, and we have to learn that. Everyone, every single one of us, and we can’t let that happen again. We were really disappointed and thought we had won the game, but we have to keep in mind that the game is never over until the referee’s whistle blows.”
“It was the first time we played really well against a low block and we created a lot of chances. We had a lot of players in the box, we had some crosses, we had shots, we had guys who created chances. That’s what we should aim for against Marseille, but they don’t have a low block and they’re going to play from the back and we have to be ready for this too.”
