Oliver Glasner looks set to leave Crystal Palace sooner rather than later, but he has been warned to reconsider his options if Manchester United move on from his departure.
Oliver Glasner has been told to think seriously about whether Manchester United is the right club for him. The Austrian has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as a long-term replacement for Ruben Amorim.
Michael Carrick was appointed until the end of the season, but was expected to move on to a more established name in the summer, with Glasner also an option. However, former Premier League star Thomas Hitzlsperger has suggested a move to United could be the wrong choice.
He told Brick: “I’m in talks with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner. I think highly of him, but I have to think about whether I really want to do it.”
“It’s not an easy environment. There’s a lot of mistrust, there’s a lot of infighting. The stakes are huge. The club is huge. The fans still remember Sir Alex Ferguson and the frustration is immense.”
“In addition to that, there are countless former players who comment on everything and are very critical of the manager.

“We have former professional Michael Carrick in charge until the end of the season, which I think is a good thing. He knows how to run a club and gives the management some breathing room.”
Manager Glasner took a fresh look at his position after Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat to Sunderland. He was brutally abused by Palace bosses just days after confirming he would leave at the end of the season, slamming the club’s decision to sell Marc Guehi to Manchester City.
“We feel completely abandoned. Selling the captain the day before the game is incomprehensible,” he said.

“We are preparing and we were told yesterday (Friday) that our captain is being sold, so why isn’t he released next week? At least he will be available for this game and the other players will be back next week. It’s really upsetting.”
“If your heart is torn out twice a year, the day before the summer game it’s (Eberechi) Eze and the day before the game it’s the captain – I just don’t understand it.”
Asked if he could leave before the end of the season, he said: “I don’t know. I’ve always had a huge debt of gratitude to this group of players. I have complete confidence in them. Their character is extraordinary and we’re going to come together and change direction.”
“I’m never going to back down because these guys deserve Oliver Glassner as their coach and leader. This is what I’m going to do. Every little bit of support helps.”
