Manchester United star Joshua Zirkzee sent two great messages after the 2-0 win over Manchester City, despite missing the game due to injury.
Joshua Zirkzee had the perfect reaction after Manchester United’s big win over local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford. Brian Mbeumo, returning from AFCON, deservedly put the hosts ahead in the 65th minute, and Patrick Daugu quickly added a second goal to secure victory.
Mason Mount, who replaced Bruno Fernandes in the closing stages, thought he had scored the third goal but was ruled out for offside by VAR. Matheus Cunha fed the pass to Mount, who had earlier assisted Dorg’s goal.
Along with Mbeumo, Amad returned from AFCON and was thrust into the starting XI, with Cunha and Benjamin Sesco being moved to the subs bench. The latter didn’t even get on the pitch, and Mbeumo was used as a “false number nine” by manager Michael Carrick.

Zirksee may have been expected to be on the bench, but he was completely absent from the team amid transfer speculation in January. However, BBC Sport reported that United officials have confirmed that his absence is due to injury and is unrelated to ongoing transfer rumors.

Roma had been rumored to sign him for several transfer windows, but he remained at the club after being dropped by multiple teams under manager Ruben Amorim. He was sidelined for a few minutes over Christmas due to an injury to another player, but has recently returned to action.
Despite this, the 24-year-old is still present at Old Trafford, enthusiastically celebrating his goal with some pretty explicit messages on social media at the time as well. Zirksee shared an update on United on his Instagram Stories, writing: “Damn, get on board!!!!!”
Zirksee also shared a photo of himself celebrating in the stands alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Tom Heaton, along with three laughing emojis. He also paid tribute to Casemiro, who won the Player of the Year award.
The victory moved United into provisional fourth place, but they were subsequently overtaken by Liverpool, despite a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Burnley.
Both teams have struggled with consistency this season, but Carrick is committed to ensuring these performances become the norm under his leadership.
“I think ultimately that’s the challenge and it has to be a version of normal.Certainly we’re not going to play a game with all the emotion and feeling that today brought.
“I think everyone understands that, but there’s definitely a standard and a level of expectations that you have to meet for yourself as well as anyone on the outside, and I’m very aware of that.
“The key to any success is consistency and if you can find it you will be a winner. That is our challenge and we have to find a way to make it happen.
“Next week is obviously a big week and another tough week, but today we have a good foundation to build on.”
Zirksee would expect to see significant playing time under Carrick, but that seems doubtful given the potential for injury, the limited game schedule, and the number of other attacking options available to the club.
