Michael Carrick’s tenure as Manchester United head coach got off to a dream start as he secured victory against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon. The former midfielder stepped into the spotlight at Old Trafford until the end of the season following the sacking of Ruben Amorim earlier this month.
The 44-year-old briefly served as caretaker manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November 2022, marking his second spell with a 2-0 win over Josep Guardiola’s side. Patrick Daugu doubled the Reds’ lead after Brian Mbeumo broke the deadlock.
With this victory, Carrick’s side moved into the top four of the Premier League. United have withdrawn from European and domestic cup competitions and will focus solely on league play for the remainder of the season.
Next up for the Red Devils is a trip to London to take on leaders Arsenal, followed by a home game against Fulham early next month.
Subsequent fixtures include fixtures against Tottenham and West Ham, before February concludes with an away game against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
