Harry Kane has continued his fine form for Bayern Munich this term, but Dietmar Hamann is not completely satisfied with his role as England captain in Vincent Kompany’s side.
Dietmar Hamann has questioned whether Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany would be happy to see Harry Kane feature in a deep position, insisting such a move would be “unacceptable” given the England captain’s ability in front of goal.
Kane, 32, has had another excellent season for the German giants, scoring 31 goals in 27 games this term. His red-hot form has played a huge role in Bayern’s dominant form in the Bundesliga, with Vincent Kompany’s side yet to lose a league game this season and on track to retain the domestic title.
However, not everyone is happy with Kane’s tendency to drop deep, with former Bayern and Liverpool midfielder Hamann not too impressed with the fact that Bayern’s most prolific marksman is not used “only as a striker”.

“I don’t know if Kompany is happy that Harry Kane no longer plays solely as a striker,” Hamann wrote in a column for Sky Sports Germany.
“Kane deserves credit for sacrificing himself for the team, but as a coach you want your strikers to be effective and score goals. In the long run, even if he’s currently doing very well in all areas, it’s unacceptable to me that Kane is winning the ball in his own penalty area, because that’s not his job at all.”
Hamann went on to point out that Kane’s performance slowed down in the second half of the past two seasons in Germany. Last season, he scored 10 points in 26 games starting in midfield.
And Hamann wants Kane to focus more on his work in the attacking penalty box than on his own. He continued: “At the moment he is rarely in scoring position, and this was the case even before Christmas. Over the last two seasons, he has scored far fewer goals in the second half of the season.”
“The question is whether Bayern can acquire the attacking power they need to face higher teams in the Champions League. I’ll be interested to see what happens with Kane.”
