Marc Göch has joined Manchester City in a deal worth up to £30 million, and Liverpool came agonizingly close to signing him during the summer transfer window.
Ibrahima Konate’s future at Liverpool is in the spotlight after Manchester City accepted their bid for Marc Gehi. Konate, 26, is in the final six months of his contract at Anfield.
The Frenchman was previously linked with a possible move to Real Madrid on a free transfer, but there have been no recent rumors from the La Liga giants. Liverpool currently only have four confirmed centre-backs, one of whom, Giovanni Leoni, suffered a season-ending injury on his debut.
That lack of depth led to Crystal Palace agreeing to pay £35m for Guehi in September. The England international was on track to sign for the Reds until Palace canceled his contract at the last minute.
Guehi’s future appears to be in Manchester. His own contract expires in June, so Palace reluctantly accepted a bid worth up to £30m from City to pay the fee.
With Gehi completely off the table, Liverpool will need to hurry up on their decision to sign Konate. Slott continues to have faith in the former RB Leipzig star, despite his few underwhelming performances from the start of the season.

“Unfortunately for him, he does a lot of things well, but he does a little bit too much at the crime scene. That’s something I’ve heard people say in England before,” Slott admitted recently. “So he’s involved in us conceding goals, which is often the case in football if you’re a centre-back.”
In November, Konate described his contract situation as “complicated”. “Obviously we are thinking about it,” he told French broadcaster Telefoot.
“But the complicated thing is that I can’t say everything because so many things are said in the media. Sometimes I look at things and think, ‘Oh, la la’ and that gets me into trouble, even though Liverpool fans don’t know everything.”

“Anyway, I hope so and I know that in any case, the most important thing is that I’m happy. We’ll see (if the announcement happens soon). We hope so anyway.”
Konate was able to sign pre-contractual agreements with overseas clubs from January 1st. There are rumors of talks with Paris Saint-Germain, and a move to the French capital would see Konate return to his homeland.
For now, the 26-year-old will want to make his statement on the pitch. Liverpool host Burnley on Saturday and Konate is likely to be included in the starting XI.
