Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior could soon join his newly inherited squad as the Blues prepare for a January swoop for Rennes’ highly-rated defender Jeremy Jacquet
Chelsea are ready to press the button on a move for high-profile Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, and could also sign an attacking midfielder this month for Cole Palmer, who is still suffering from a groin problem.
The Blues are under a new manager after Enzo Maresca was replaced by Liam Rosenior following the Italian’s departure, and there is scope for the former Strasbourg boss to make some changes to the squad he took over in the transfer window that ends on February 2nd.
Chelsea have made some big moves in the transfer market in recent years under their current owners, and new reports suggest they could be looking to spend big again in the winter window.

The Sun has outlined that Chelsea are prepared to press ahead with a move for the highly-rated 20-year-old Jaquet, although Rennes are understood to be reluctant to sign their star defender this month.
Jaquet, who has impressed in Ligue 1, has other high-profile suitors including Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
Chelsea are hoping to add a defender to their squad in January after first-choice centre-half Levi Colwill has not played at all this season due to an ACL injury. They tried to sign Dean Huyssen, but the Bournemouth man was unable to join Real Madrid.
A move for Jacquet is expected to be imminent, with the club also prepared to consider adding an attacking midfielder. Blues talisman Palmer has struggled for fitness this season, limited to just 12 appearances due to a groin problem.
Chelsea are also set to leave Facundo Buonanotte, whose season-long loan was terminated by Brighton this week as the Argentina international joins Leeds United.
Rosenior hinted on Thursday that Chelsea could do business this month, saying: “I think it has to be the right player (if we sign in January). We have to be patient. We want to evaluate this group. That’s really, really important to me.”
“There’s still time. Myself and the board are talking every day, internally and externally, about potential transfers. But at the same time, I need to focus on the players in the building.
“When we feel it’s the right time or the right player, we’ll make that decision.”
