Enrique took charge of the Ligue 1 giants in July 2023 following a spell with the Spanish national team. His trophy haul includes two league titles in France, two Coupe de France titles and the club’s first ever Champions League title.
His existing contract is due to expire in 2027 and there were whispers that he might look for a new challenge this summer. However, iPaper reports that Enrique is happy in Paris and feels he has more to achieve at the club.
Despite this, the same report suggests that leaving Selhurst Park has not increased his chances of landing a job at United. Palace went on a nine-game winless streak in all competitions, and his reputation suffered.
Instead, Roberto de Zerbi and Thomas Tuchel are said to be leading the battle for the position. De Zerbi rose to prominence during his time at Brighton before moving to Marseille.
Tuchel’s contract with England ends after the World Cup, and United had previously considered him as a possible manager. The German coach led Chelsea to Champions League success, with notable wins over PSG and Bayern Munich.
Michael Carrick will remain in charge of United for the remainder of the season. His appointment caused considerable debate, especially considering the former United midfielder’s departure from Middlesbrough in June.
But despite external commentary, Carrick insisted the former player’s comments would not lead to increased scrutiny. “They’re not putting any more pressure on me,” Carrick said.
“I don’t feel it. There are a lot of opinions out there, some positive, some not so much. In terms of what I focus on, it doesn’t matter at all.”
“There’s a lot that can be said. That’s the way the world works. I’m not going to pay too much attention to that. For me, the players and the staff, we’re focused on how we can be successful.”
