The Austrian told reporters: “The decision had already been taken and I spoke to Steve (rector) in October during my international break a few months ago. We had a very long discussion and I told him that I would not sign a new contract. At that point we both agreed that it would be best to keep this a secret between us. It would be best to make that happen and keep it secret for three months.”
Express Sport looks at five managers who could replace Glasner next season.
Kieran McKenna
Palace have had a long-standing interest in the Northern Irishman and approached Ipswich Town before they were promoted to the Premier League two seasons ago.
He is likely to remain on their radar, but a successful move won’t come cheap. McKenna is thought to earn around £5m a year at Ipswich, and his contract extension, set to run in 2024, reportedly includes a significant break clause.
Iñigo Perez
The Eagles reportedly approached coach Rayo Vallecano last year when they were considering potential successors should Glasner decide to leave.
They may choose to revive that interest in the summer following Friday’s shock announcement. However, the Spaniard is currently struggling in La Liga, with the team winning just five games all season, and things could change.

The former England manager has not managed a team since leaving the Three Lions at the end of Euro 2024. However, Glasner’s departure at the end of the season could be the perfect opportunity for him to return to the touchline.
Southgate is well known among Palace supporters, having made over 150 appearances for the club during his footballing career. But as well as scrutiny over his style of play, there will also be questions about his readiness to lead a Premier League club.
frank lampard
Another option for Lampard, who led Coventry to the brink of promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 26 years, could come in the form of a transfer.
He has already gained valuable experience as a manager in England’s first team, having previously been in charge of Chelsea and Everton. Although these spells did not go as planned, some argue that he redeemed himself with his time in the Championship.
michael carrick
Alternatively, the Eagles could decide to use Carrick when he leaves Manchester United at the end of the season. However, whether he emerges as a suitable candidate will depend on how he fares at Old Trafford.
If the season finishes successfully, other Premier League clubs could signal his availability in the summer. Meanwhile, Carrick is certainly keen to become Palace manager, as it is thought unlikely that he will be offered a permanent job by United.
