Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has responded to former Red Devils captain Roy Keane’s comments about his wife after he said on the Overlap podcast that she had a “big mouth”.
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick insists he is unfazed by criticism of Roy Keane’s wife and says he can ignore the opinions of his former Old Trafford colleagues.
Keane used his platform on the Overlap podcast to grill Carrick’s wife, claiming she had a “big mouth” in comments that appeared to be a reference to Lisa’s reaction to criticism leveled at her husband during the 2013/14 campaign.
After United lost 2-0 to Olympiakos in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, Carrick gave a television interview in which Keane, in his capacity as a pundit, directed his anger at the midfielder who took over the number 16 shirt at United.
“That interview was flat, just like the performance. He should have said a little more and had a little more urgency during the interview,” Keene said.

Lisa wrote on social media: “Roy Keane would say anything to cause a reaction.”
The message was later deleted, but Keene remembers it clearly because she swiped it this week. The Manchester Evening News reported that he suggested Carrick’s wife was “perhaps doing some team talk” in the run-up to the game he was in charge of.
However, Carrick suggested in his first press conference as United’s caretaker manager that the comments were not a problem for him. “It didn’t bother me,” he said, dismissing suggestions that former players would make his job even harder.

“They’re not putting any more pressure on me,” he insisted. “I don’t feel it. There are a lot of opinions out there, some positive, some not so much. In terms of what I focus on, it doesn’t matter at all.”
“We know what we want to improve and how we want to work with the players. There’s a lot that can be said. That’s the way the world works. We’re not going to pay too much attention to that. We’re focused on how to be successful for us, for the players and staff.”
