Renee Meulensteen slams Manchester United’s owners and urges them to appoint either Carlo Ancelotti or Eddie Howe as the next permanent manager.
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have been accused of being ignorant when it comes to managing the English giants.
Ratcliffe is the third manager to be appointed after purchasing a stake in the club in 2024. On the other hand, United do not have players available to play early in the season after World War II. Michael Carrick has been appointed interim manager until the summer, with Ratcliffe & Co. set to take over permanently.
But as the fallen giants move from crisis to crisis, former United manager Renee Meulensteen insists those in charge have no idea what they are doing. And Sir Alex Ferguson’s former number two has called on United to appoint either Carlo Ancelotti or Eddie Howe as their next manager.

Meulensteen said: “Since INEOS and Jim Ratcliffe came in, do they actually know what they’re doing? You have to look at everyone in those positions and they have to be responsible in key positions. Do they have the pedigree?”
“If you look at Jason Wilcox (director of football) and how he got into that position, if you go through youth coaching and end up at Southampton, you’re the technical director and the main person responsible for Manchester United.
“If Carlo Ancelotti came in to take the job, Carlo would be in charge of recruiting because he knows his network and what a winning culture looks like.”
Meulensteen continued on the Footy Accumulators No Tippy Tappy Football podcast in partnership with BOYLE Sports. “If you ask Jason to describe a winning culture, what are the ingredients? Does he know? I’m a big fan of Ancelotti, the way his team plays football, his success, the way he carries himself and manages people.
“He would have the stature to come in and run a club like Man United. The question is, who has that pedigree, understands the Premier League, has the ability to manage a club of that size, plays in a Man United style and is successful?”
“With Wilcox and (Omar) Berrada (CEO), it creates so many problems when you throw names around because you don’t know how they think about it.
“Eddie Howe is potentially a good shout, I rate him. He’s a player who has clearly created his own culture at Newcastle.”
