According to reports, manager Jurgen Klopp will only return to manage two teams and has no plans to return to Liverpool. The former Reds manager has been away from the touchline since leaving Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season. He has been working as Red Bull’s global head of football since January, but there has been talk of a return to the dugout in recent weeks.
Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for Klopp following the sacking of Xabi Alonso earlier this week. The Bernabéu authorities decided to sack the Spaniard following last weekend’s Supercopa defeat to Barcelona. Alvaro Arbeloa has replaced Alonso as manager, but Klopp has reportedly emerged as a potential target ahead of the summer.
According to Sky Germany, the former Liverpool manager would be open to managing the Whites if they approached him.
He is said to be happy in his current role and has a “strong sense of identification” with the Red Bull project. However, depending on the situation, he may consider returning to management.
Klopp would accept the Real Madrid job if offered, but it is claimed he would also be interested in the German manager at international level.
However, there was no mention of a possible return to Liverpool should Arne Slott be sacked in the near future. The Reds’ current manager is under pressure after a difficult start to their bid to defend their Premier League title this season.
“(My phone) was actually ringing, not from Madrid, but certainly there were some people who felt they had to contact me directly about this,” he told ServusTV.
“I think this rumor has been around for quite some time, and I understand what your question is about, but it has nothing to do with me.
“I was surprised, it’s true, I was really surprised. A few people messaged me afterwards and I replied with different emojis. I’m really disappointed because I think he’s a great coach. It had nothing to do with me and it didn’t trigger anything in me.”
“You arrived after a legend, a very good manager (Carlo Ancelotti), who coached the team in a very particular way, and then when you arrive there and try to introduce new rules, it seems that this time it turned out to be too difficult.”
Real Madrid will be hoping for a good run under Arbeloa, but Arbeloa hasn’t had the best start to his career. He oversaw a disastrous Copa del Rey defeat against second-division Albacete in his first match in charge.
