Serial winner Luis Enrique ticks all the boxes, but will Manchester United’s owners be able to lure him to Old Trafford?
Manchester United have identified Luis Enrique as one of their main targets in the search for a permanent manager for the club. United have appointed Michael Carrick as interim manager until the end of the season.
Club leaders will then choose a full-time manager in the summer. Possible candidates include Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Carlo Ancelotti. And now it turns out that Enrique is also the target of the fallen giant. United’s owners are understood to want to appoint someone who can withstand the high pressure and expectations that come with being a manager. Enrique, a two-time Champions League winner, has a wealth of managerial experience having previously managed the Spanish national team, Barcelona national team, and currently Paris Saint-Germain national team.

The 55-year-old won nine major trophies with Barça, including the 2015 Champions League. The Spaniard went on to win a further 10 trophies with PSG, including his second European title. Enrique’s PSG won Europe last season by defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.
Enrique is said to have the ‘winning pedigree’ United need in their next appointment.
Interestingly, Enrique is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract with PSG in June, but has not agreed to a new contract. If the situation continues into the summer, United will not be able to collect the huge compensation they owe PSG.
There has been mounting speculation that he will leave the French giants this summer, but he has denied this and there is a possibility he could sign a new contract. It also remains to be seen whether United will be able to lure Enrique to Old Trafford, given the club’s current situation and the magnitude of the task ahead.
