Manchester United have named Luis Enrique as their main candidate in their search for a permanent manager. The Red Devils are set to appoint Michael Carrick as interim manager until the end of the season, with his full-time appointment expected to take place in the summer. Other names on the list of candidates include Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Carlo Ancelotti.
Enrique has emerged as a potential option for the Red Devils. Club owners want to bring in someone who can handle the immense pressure and expectations that come with the role. Enrique has had an impressive managerial career, having managed Spain, Barcelona and now Paris Saint-Germain.
The 55-year-old Spaniard has won nine major trophies with Barcelona, including winning the Champions League in 2015. He went on to add ten more trophies to his collection, including his second Champions League title with PSG.
His PSG team won Europe last season, beating Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal on the way to Munich, before defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.
Enrique, whose winning record is in line with what United are looking for in their next manager, will enter the final year of his contract with PSG in June but has yet to agree a new deal. If this situation continues through the summer, United will no longer have to pay PSG a huge compensation fee.
Despite speculation regarding his departure from the French giants, Enrique has denied these rumors and could still sign a new contract.
It remains unclear whether United will be able to lure Enrique to Old Trafford, given the club’s current situation and the scale of the task ahead.
