Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs interested in signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, but Manchester City appear to be the only clubs willing to make a deal this month.
Manchester City would not be opposed to signing Marc Guehi this month, but Arsenal and Liverpool plan to wait until the summer to sign the England defender on a free transfer.
Guehi, 25, has emerged as a serious target for some of the Premier League’s top clubs after impressing for Crystal Palace in recent years. And the former Chelsea player, who was close to returning to Liverpool in the summer transfer window, currently has less than six months left on his contract at Selhurst Park and will not sign an extension.
Guehi was widely expected to leave the Eagles on a free transfer at the end of the season, with Liverpool in particular always likely to rekindle their interest in him.

However, Manchester City are open to signing Guehi this month and could gain an advantage in the race to sign him if they can facilitate a significant deal in the January transfer window rather than the summer.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool have decided it would be “unrealistic” to sign Guehi in January due to the financial considerations involved in making such a deal, particularly given the player’s lucrative options as a free agent who could command a large signing fee. Instead, they will focus on central defensive options in the summer transfer window, where they could also lose the services of Ibrahima Konate.
Furthermore, any long-term interest in the defender from Arsenal is unlikely to be considered this month, with the Gunners also intending to consider a potential summer deal rather than a mid-season deal after Guehi is released from his contract at Crystal Palace.
The problem for both clubs is that City are likely to have free rein in convincing Guehi to make an early departure from south London. The former Premier League champions are currently prioritizing the acquisition of a central defender after signing Antoine Semenyo in a £62.5m deal.
Crystal Palace agreed a deal worth around £35m to sell Guehi to Liverpool in the summer, but a dramatic change of heart at the 11th hour means the January deadline is their last chance to land their captain.
It has been claimed elsewhere that City have “intentions” to sign Guehi this month and are prepared to accept any other offers.
Meanwhile, City brought back Max Alleyne from his loan spell against Watford in the Championship, and the 20-year-old enjoyed successive starts, with the young centre-half scoring in a 10-1 win over Exeter City in the FA Cup.
