Ruben Amorim was sacked earlier this month after a poor year and a half at Manchester United, and the Portuguese manager was told what his future would be.
Ruben Amorim, who has been linked with a return to coaching in his home country, is attracting attention in Portugal. The former Sporting Lisbon manager was sacked by Manchester United earlier this month after a disappointing year at Old Trafford.
And just days after seeing his contract canceled, Amorim decided to return to Portugal. CNN Portugal shared an image of the 40-year-old man arriving in his homeland with his son on Saturday evening.
Amorim was also mopped by reporters, but he did not answer any of their questions before getting into his car. This is not the first time Amorim has been spotted since his spell at United came to a brutal end.
On Monday, he was also photographed leaving his home in Cheshire with his wife Maria Joao Diogo. Amorim’s return to Portugal comes as the former Sporting Lisbon manager has been linked with a return to coaching in his home country.

Asked by Hard Rock Bets where he will go next, United icon Gary Pallister said: “I don’t know. He’s a young player and it might take some time for him to get over this situation. He certainly looked like a manager under huge pressure.”
He added: “I don’t know where Ruben will go next. He might go back to Portugal. I’m sure someone in Portugal will want him after he finishes his job at Sporting. He has time to sit and think. This will leave a scar. It’s been a tough road.”
“He was under scrutiny from day one and there was no room in his system. There’s probably only one team in the history of the Premier League who won the Premier League with a back five – Chelsea with Antonio Conte. So what does this say?”

“If you look at the club at the moment, there’s not a lot of positive atmosphere around Manchester United.”
Amorim enjoyed sufficient success in Portugal before being appointed by Manchester United as Erik ten Hag’s successor. He played for Braga and Sporting Lisbon, winning three Portuguese Cups and two Primeira Liga titles.
However, his time at Old Trafford was very disappointing, leading the club to their worst ever Premier League result, while they lost to Tottenham Hotspur in last season’s Europa League final. Things seemed to improve slightly on the pitch this season, but his relationship with director of football Jason Wilcox rapidly deteriorated, forcing United’s leadership to sack him.
