Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool is currently uncertain due to a public falling out with manager Arne Slott, but talks with Jordan Henderson have heightened transfer speculation.
Mohamed Salah traveled to London on Wednesday to speak to former Liverpool team-mate Jordan Henderson, whose future at the club is in doubt. Salah was left out of the Reds’ squad for the Champions League game against Inter Milan and has sought advice from his former captain with an eye on a possible move in January.
The 33-year-old’s future at Liverpool is in doubt after he slammed Arne Slott in a fiery interview on Saturday. Salah accused his manager of dropping him from the side and throwing him under the bus in a recent match.
However, club leaders have backed Slott’s decision and Salah is wanted by clubs in the Saudi Professional League when the January transfer window opens. Slott and Salah are set to engage in face-off negotiations in the coming days before jetting off to play for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Saudi clubs Al-Hilal, Al-Qadisah and Neom have all expressed interest in securing Salah, while American clubs San Diego and Chicago Fire are also closely monitoring developments. The three Saudi clubs will no doubt be intrigued by Salah’s movements on Wednesday, with The Sun showing a photo of him meeting Henderson at a west London restaurant.

The former team-mates were photographed by a witness having lunch together at Chelsea’s Scalini. Both players wore face masks and hats to avoid prying eyes, but Salah was not ignored as he asked Henderson questions during the 90-minute meal.
According to reports, Salah asked Henderson about his time playing for Al Etifaq in Saudi Arabia. The England midfielder left Liverpool in July 2023 to join Al Etifaq, who were then managed by Steven Gerrard, and had the misfortune of spending six months in the Middle East.
He remained with the club until January 2024, but his contract was terminated by mutual consent and he returned to the Premier League with Brentford after a contract period with Ajax. Henderson shared a dressing room with Salah for six years at Liverpool and the two remain close friends.
It is unclear what the two discussed, but the meeting comes at an interesting time for Salah as he considers his options as the January transfer window approaches. Liverpool are understood to be open to Salah’s future, given that he earns £350,000 a week and is under contract until June 2027.
Given the funding involved, Saudi Arabia is the most likely exit route. Liverpool rejected a £150m offer from Al Ittihad in September 2023 and the Saudis have been courting Salah ever since.
Pro League president Omar Mughalbel confirmed on Thursday that “Salah will be welcome” in Saudi Arabia. Liverpool have not yet announced whether the player will feature in Saturday’s Premier League match against Brighton.
