Manchester United have released their first quarter financial results, with the Premier League club posting an operating profit of £13.3 million, compared to a loss of £6.9 million a year earlier, due to cost cutting.
Manchester United have announced their first quarter results, revealing that cost cutting led to an operating profit of £13.3m, a significant improvement on the £6.9m loss in the same period last year.
After acquiring a minority stake in Old Trafford in 2024, Sir Jim Ratcliffe began a review of the club’s operations, leading to widespread job cuts across various departments to cut costs.
United published the latest financial figures on Thursday, proving the club operated at a profit in the first quarter. United CEO Omar Berrada said: “These strong financial results reflect the resilience of Manchester United as we make significant progress in the club’s transformation.
“The difficult decisions we have taken over the past year have resulted in a sustainably lower cost base and a more streamlined and effective structure to drive the club towards improved sporting and commercial performance over the long term,” he said.
“This has allowed us to invest in our men’s and women’s teams, which are in sixth and third place in the Premier League and Women’s Super League respectively.”
However, revenue decreased slightly by 2% due to lower broadcast revenue in Europe and two fewer home games in the quarter compared to the same period last year.
United currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and are on track to achieve their season goal of returning to Europe. Qualifying for the Champions League will bring in further income.
While the club is confident that the first quarter figures show progress in strengthening its financial position, insiders acknowledge that long-term sustainability requires greater diligence and discipline.
