Mo Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain with the transfer window just around the corner, just days before the Egyptian captain departs for the African Cup of Nations.
Liverpool manager Arne Slott is set to hold face-to-face talks with Mo Salah in the next 48 hours, the outcome of which will decide the future of the volatile superstar. Five foreign clubs are interested in Salah, but he was left out of Liverpool’s squad for Tuesday’s crucial 1-0 win away to Inter Milan and accused the club of “throwing him under the bus” in an explosive interview.
The Egypt captain also insisted he no longer has “anything to do” with Slott, who was on the bench for Liverpool’s previous games, and suggested Saturday’s game against Brighton could be his last appearance for the club. Salah, 33, will fly out next week for the African Cup of Nations and is expected to return home until January.
By then, the winter transfer window will open and teams from the Saudi Professional League and MLS will be circling his signature. The Mail reported that Saudi trio Al-Hilal, Al-Qadisha and Neom have expressed interest, while US clubs San Diego and Chicago Fire are also monitoring Salah’s future developments.
However, interested clubs will have to wait to see if peace talks can be reached at Anfield before making a move. Liverpool are preparing to make a bid but have no current plans to sell Salah, signing him on a new two-year contract worth more than £400,000-a-week in April.
Two years ago, the Reds rejected a £150m bid from Al Ittihad. The following season, Salah enjoyed perhaps his best season ever, leading Slot’s team to the Premier League title.

Since then, Saudi clubs have kept Salah high on their shortlist, with the league’s CEO Omar Mughalbel saying at the World Football Summit in Riyadh on Wednesday: “Mohamed Salah is welcome in the Saudi league, but it is the clubs who are responsible for negotiating with players. Salah is certainly one of[their targets].”
Meanwhile, Slott suggested Salah should approach him and apologize for his comments. The Liverpool manager was questioned by Prime Video sports commentator Clarence Seedorf, but refused to say whether he intended to mend their relationship.
After Tuesday’s Champions League win, Slott responded: “Everyone makes mistakes in life, but do players think they made mistakes?” “The next question is, should he be in charge or should I be in charge? That’s another question to answer.”

Salah has invited his mother to attend Saturday’s match at Anfield, but it is unclear whether he will play against Brighton. “I’m going to Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to the African Cup of Nations,” the forward explained in the aforementioned interview. “You never know what’s going to happen when you’re there.”
