The headlines were dominated by Mohamed Salah’s scathing comments about Arne Slott and Liverpool legend turned Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher’s reaction.
It has been revealed that Liverpool have held talks with Jamie Carragher to discuss coverage of the club. On Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, the club icon gave a scathing eight-minute response to Mohamed Salah’s criticism of Arne Slott.
After Liverpool’s 3-3 draw away at Leeds United, the Egyptian marched to the mixed zone at Elland Road and accused the club of “throwing them under the bus”, saying he had “nothing to do” with Slott and hinting that this weekend’s home game against Brighton & Hove Albion could be his last game for the club. While arguing with stunned reporters, Salah took a cheeky jab at Carragher as part of his tirade.
Following this, Salah was left out of Liverpool’s squad, which beat Inter Milan 1-0 in a crucial Champions League away game. One night, Carragher apologized on air to Salah after accusing him of trying to “get the manager sacked”, while also telling him to “behave well off the pitch”. However, further reports suggest that Salah is not the only Liverpool player to be fed up with Carragher’s punditry.

According to the Daily Mail, the club held what it described as a “secret meeting” to discuss how he would cover Liverpool. However, this was done before the falling out with Salah and is not at all unusual.
The club spoke to Carragher in September about the tone of some of the reports. But he still feels at ease speaking his mind and leaving no prisoners. Salah’s scathing rebuke lasted eight minutes, with the defender calling him a “disgrace” and accusing him of trying to get Slot sacked.
He also said that before Salah joined Liverpool, he was “known only as the guy who failed at Chelsea”, referring to his failures at Jose Mourinho’s Stamford Bridge, where he contributed two goals and three assists in just 19 games between 2013 and 2015.Carragher apologized live on CBS Sports’ Champions League broadcast, where he is known to have played alongside Thierry Henry and Kate. Abdo-Richards and Micah Richards spoke and did not take back any of his words.
The former England international said: “Mo, I’m sorry if I’ve upset you. I love you as a Liverpool player, but you just need to behave yourself off the pitch.”
Salah has yet to respond to Carragher’s comments, whether it was his harsh rebuke on Monday Night Football or his apology on CBS.
Salah doesn’t seem to be the only Reds player to be unimpressed by Carragher’s punditry. The same Mail report also claims that many members of Liverpool’s squad are becoming “frustrated” by the 47-year-old’s comments.
Mr Carragher has been contacted for comment.
The Sky Sports star is one of the country’s most high-profile football pundits and his views on major platforms are highly influential. The report claims the former Liverpool star is happy with his approach to the job at Sky Sports and American network CBS, with one source claiming his opinions are “honest” and “come from a good place”.
His relationship with the Liverpool star is similar to that of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes with Manchester United players, with it being claimed that some Red Devils have refused to work with the club icon.
Salah will not depart for the African Cup of Nations until after the game against Brighton, so there is still time for him and the club to discuss his future. The 33-year-old is a firm target for the Saudi club ahead of the January transfer window, but Liverpool have not ruled out a solution and a possible return for the legendary winger.
