Mohamed Salah has received an offer that could shake up Liverpool’s hierarchy. Over the weekend, the Egyptian claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” after being left on the bench against Leeds United on Saturday, and revealed he had no relationship with manager Arne Slott. Following his nasty comments, he was left out of the squad for Tuesday’s game against Inter Milan.
Teams in the Saudi Professional League are monitoring the situation ahead of the January transfer window, and there is a real possibility that Salah has already played his final game for the Reds. As relations between the club and the player deteriorated rapidly, TV presenter Piers Morgan made an offer to Salah.
The infamous meeting between Morgan and Cristiano Ronaldo, during his second spell at Manchester United, ultimately decided the fate of the Portuguese superstar.
In response to Salah’s scathing point, Morgan wrote to X: “Wow… time for an interview @MoSalah?”
Back in 2022, Ronaldo gave Morgan an explosive interview in which he criticized the Glazers’ ownership, slammed the club’s training facilities and targeted then-manager Erik ten Hag.
United immediately released him from his contract, paving the way for him to move to Al Nasr, where he continues to play.
Ronaldo’s revelations have divided supporters, with some United fans praising his honesty, while others insist the club needs to address some harsh truths. However, some criticized the emotional return, seeing it as an outburst of anger from a failed player.
Liverpool’s bosses will be desperate for Salah to not take up Morgan’s offer. At this point, a solution seems unlikely, but not completely impossible.
Nevertheless, further public abuse from the 33-year-old could spell the end of his Anfield career, especially if it is directed at someone as prominent as Morgan.
The Reds also need to consider the potential impact on the rest of the squad.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker admitted: “This is not a happy situation for us because on a personal level we all love Mo.”
“He’s a very important player for the team, a great human being, a great football player and a very important member of the club.”
He added: “We were a bit surprised[by Salah’s comments]but we know this is a personal situation so we will leave that between him and the club. What we believe is not part of the story.”
“What we hope is that he and the club come to an agreement that is in the best interests of him, the club and all the players and staff. I hope he will play for the club again. It is a personal matter between Mo and the club.”
“As his team-mates and friends we want the best for him, but as Liverpool players we want the best for the club as well. We want a win-win situation for everyone.”
