Alejandro Garnacho ended his spell at Manchester United on the final day of the summer transfer window, with the Argentina winger moving to Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Former Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has no regrets about ending up at Old Trafford. The Argentina international is looking to rebuild his career at Chelsea after a summer move, but it looks like he is looking forward rather than backward.
Garnacho looked ready for a fresh start after being left out of the starting XI for last season’s Europa League final. He got a taste of the Champions League commitments with his new employers after completing his deadline-day switch and spoke to reporters ahead of a midweek meeting with Atalanta.
In the pre-match press conference, Garnacho was asked if he regretted how things ended at the club where he made his Premier League debut. His answer was simply ‘no’ and the winger insisted the decision to move to Stamford Bridge made perfect sense.
“Sometimes in life you have to change things to take a step forward or to improve as a player,” Garnacho said Monday. “This was the right club and it was an easy decision.”
Garnacho, 21, scored his first goal for Chelsea in the Premier League defeat to Sunderland in October. He also opened the club’s Champions League account the month after the draw with Qarabag and spoke openly about the influence Blues manager Enzo Maresca had on his game.

“He explained everything to me and now that we’re working together, I think we’re doing well,” Garnacho said of Maresca. “We’re going to improve over time. We’ve only been together for three months, but he believes in me and that’s the most important thing, to have confidence, and I’m going to improve.”
“The most important thing is confidence. He talks to me every week and I think that over time, both me as a player and the team will get better together. We only started the season three months ago, so there is a trust building between the coach and the players.”
While Garnacho waits for his latest taste of Champions League football, his former employer is looking to make the most of his lack of a European contract. Ruben Amorim’s United overcame a scare to beat bottom-of-the-table Wolves on Monday night and are now level on points with Chelsea.
Bruno Fernandes’ goal gave United an early lead, but Jean-Richner Bellegarde equalized just before half-time. However, the visitors improved in the second half and won with goals from Brian Mbeumo and Mason Mount before Fernandes scored his second of the night.
“I thought we started the game really well,” head coach Amorim told Sky Sports. “We scored and got Wolves back into the game a little bit. We struggled in the last play of the first half, but in the second half we had good pace and made quality decisions. We finished the game and Wolves are in a difficult period. It was a good night.”
