Mohamed Salah took Cristiano Ronaldo’s book from scratch in a wild and risky attempt to find a way out of Liverpool in the January transfer window.
Mo Salah is not the first superstar to let his ego get the better of him. Using the power of your voice to manipulate situations to your advantage.
Cristiano Ronaldo steps forward.
It feels like Salah is reading the same script as Ronaldo as he launches a ferocious attack against Liverpool. Back in 2022, Ronaldo was in the same position at Manchester United that Salah currently occupies at Anfield.
He knew his star had fallen. He knew his form and goals were depleted. He knew he would be a liability to the club, not an asset. And he was hoping to leave and make some cash with a lucrative move to the Saudi Professional League. So he decided to blame someone other than himself.
Sound familiar?
Like Salah, Ronaldo had been thinking about it for months before deciding to attack. He directed his fire at then-United manager Erik ten Hag through the media. He also revealed that he feels “betrayed” by United.

United leaders were exploring the possibility of sacking Ronaldo for breach of contract. However, following expert and expensive legal advice, United opted to terminate the contract instead. There was an agreement on both sides.
United saved around £16 million in wages, while Ronaldo headed to Saudi Arabia via the Qatar World Cup and signed a deal with Al Nasr for the same amount per month!
So Ronaldo got what he wanted, with the added bonus of leaving behind a trail of destruction. It’s safe to assume that Liverpool’s owners are currently exploring their own options in dealing with their disillusioned icon.
Ronaldo’s departure from Old Trafford represented his most explosive performance during his second spell at United. And now Salah is making even more headlines for his exploits off the pitch than on it. The similarities are obvious.
There is a possibility that Salah will also go to Saudi Arabia. Salah knows his footballing talent has diminished and he is no longer a key figure in Liverpool’s dressing room.
It’s the same thing Ronaldo realized three years ago. And, like Ronaldo, Salah is destined to leave a club where he was once considered a legend, leaving a grave stain on his achievements.
