Manchester United, player’s agent reveals clear path to £70m transfer | Soccer | Sports

Manchester United proved their enduring appeal in football during the summer transfer window. Despite coming off the worst season in the history of the Premier League and lacking the appeal of Champions League football, the Red Devils still managed to sign three new attackers and a goalkeeper, significantly strengthening their squad from the previous season. There is still room for improvement, but United are now aiming for the top spot.

The Reds’ next challenge is midfield. Casemiro’s future at the club is uncertain and even if he were to stay, a younger replacement would be needed as United aim to reduce the average age of their starting XI. Furthermore, with rumors swirling about Koby Mainu’s future, a player like Adam Wharton could be an ideal addition for the Reds next season. The Crystal Palace midfielder is estimated to be worth £70m and has proven his mettle in the Premier League, proving he is versatile both as a playmaker and as a defensive lynchpin when required.

But Wharton’s signing also comes with concerns that United will not be able to compete with other clubs vying for his signature.

In a recent interview with talkSPORT, his agent James Featherstone outlined what United need to do to secure his client’s services.

“When he was at Blackburn we sat down and talked about being a star player and playing for England,” Featherstone explained.

“So how do you get there? Personally, I think that to play for England you have to play in the Champions League. To play in the Champions League you have to play for one of the top teams in one of the top leagues.”

“I think the jump to a Champions League team could be a bit of a stretch. The underlying plan was to play for a Premier League team.We have a plan.

“He’s 21 years old. I have to check myself every now and then to remind myself of that. It doesn’t have to be accomplished yesterday, today, or this moment.”

“He has goals and objectives during the game, during the season. He should do what he has to do and the rest will take care of himself in a very systematic and calm way to ultimately add value and maximize his abilities.”

It is clear that Wharton’s ambition is to compete in the Champions League, and although United have looked far from that level in recent days, they are still well within reach.

They currently sit 12th in the Premier League, but the table is very close, meaning a few wins could put them in contention for a genuine top-four finish.

A fifth place finish could be enough to qualify for the Champions League for the 2026/27 season. The problem is that consistency remains elusive for United.

If they have ambitions of attracting a player of Wharton’s caliber, they’ll have to find that consistency.
